Cutting Week

This week is ‘Cutting Week’.

The most important element of the feltwork I do is the preparation: the cutting. If the felt has clean, smooth edges and two pieces that completely match, then the work of sewing becomes effortless.

I use my Mum’s expensive Singer sewing scissors. She is on a very extended hiatus from sewing so they live at my house now. All the children have been warned not to touch the special silver scissors.

Recently my eldest son moved into the garage to sleep. My husband and I have three kids sleeping in our bedroom…. but the trade off is that we now have an ‘office’ – a room just for adults. And in the corner of this room is a little desk, just for me.

So this week I have been sitting at my little desk while the baby sleeps or plays at my feet, listening to the radio and letting my mind wander while I enjoy the repetitive nature of cutting.
